A few more words about this course

This course weaves through observational and imaginative lessons, alternating the use of mediums of gouache paint and graphite, while we draw through themes of ancient history and renaissance art. 

Your students will develop their ability to draw and to see light and beauty in the world around them while building a beautiful artistic portfolio that will make your school shine.  

Art projects incorporate themes from Ancient Greek and Roman history as students draw from the Odyssey, draw Greek and Roman busts.  And also learn from Renaissance artists Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci as they copy their master works later in the year.  

Students will also learn how to paint still life, from nature and also beautiful landscapes.  This well rounded curriculum keeps students engaged, excited and eager for the next project.  So much so that they will begin drawing in their free time at home.

  • Foundational Shape Review for returning and new students
  • Color Mixing Lesson
  • Still Life Painting: Old Boots & Tools
  • Cast and Shadow Shape Drawing of Greek and Roman Busts (optional three color medium)
  • Paint from Nature: A Chameleon painting
  • Portrait Anatomy: Draw the Skull in 4 positions
  • Landscape Painting and Perspective: Paint a Bucolic Country Barn
  • Renaissance Master Copy Drawing of Michelangelo and Leonardo
  • Clothed Figure Drawing
